Search engine marketing History
Search marketing is a relatively young discipline. Given the millions of websites online, the question of finding relevant information has become core to the search ideal.
The first search tools created were directories. Generally they display websites ordered by category and in alphabetical order.
Then came the search engines as we know them today.
The beginning of search marketing was quite simple. The major task was the submission of websites within the major directories. Some of the first "smart guys" also were making submission with satellite website with domain name begining with some "A".
Optimisation of the website code and content came later, with the improvement of the relevancy algorithms.
Here are a few search tools that have either disapeared, been bought by other companies or are no longer used (at least by these names): Teoma, Inktomi, Northern Light etc. ...
